2021 Ford Edge Review
Posted on April 12, 2021
The Ford Edge is one of the best-selling mid-size, five-seater SUVs among Canadian drivers. Focused firmly on interior comfort and convenience but with plenty of options to choose from under the hood, the latest Edge is packed with safety features and optional features now part of the standard package. Here are the highlights of the 2021 Ford Edge.
New for 2021
Dual-zone automatic climate control is now a standard feature across the range. There's also a new optional Titanium Appearance package that adds chrome accents, red interior stitching, 20" polished aluminum wheels, and more.
Even without the enhanced appearance package - the large front grille, swept-back headlights, and metallic accents are complemented by sculpting spoilers to add a sporty flair to a practical overall shape. Inside, a spacious interior with comfortable seats, and noticeable silence, even at higher speeds.
Under the hood, there's an Edge to suit every driving need. At the base level, the 2.0L turbo gasoline engine makes 250 horsepower, with the output passed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. For daily city or highway driving duties, this drivetrain provides plenty of peps.
However, if you're looking for more, the high-end ST trim boasts a meaty 2.7L V6 twin-turbo mill pushing out an impressive 335 horsepower, adding an incredible amount of performance to the base family-friendly SUV.
The Edge's infotainment system is built around a crisp 8" colour touchscreen display, running Ford's impressive Sync 3 software for quick and user-friendly operation. A Wi-Fi hotspot facility is standard on all models, along with full smartphone connectivity using AppLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.
The infotainment system also includes family-friendly features including parental locking for the satellite radio, and a speaker control system to provide audio to the driver only, leaving the rest of the cabin in peace.
Along with five-star ratings from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS, the Ford Edge is equipped with active features including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
